The past few months I participated in a Thrift Shop Challenge with a group of photographers from all over the US. We had to shop using only $20 to purchase the main parts of the shoot. We had about three months to do everything, which seems like plenty of time, but for some reason I am here [on the due date] typing this post. haha! Time flies when you are having fun!
I photograph Las Vegas Senior Portraits and Weddings and I decided to announce a model call to search for that perfect high school senior girl. Once I found her, I got her sizes and headed to a nearby thrift store. I found a super cute black lace peplum style shirt and two skirts, which I only ended up using one. I also went shopping in my own closet for jewelry. I forgot how much I actually owned until having to dig through it all, ha! Oh, and an amazing floppy hate that my neighbor willingly let me borrow when I told her what I was doing.
For my Thrift Shop Challenge, the original idea was boho chic, but that changed right at the end when I just couldn’t find a shirt to go with the other skirt that I had. That skirt was the man piece to this boho theme. It is a challenge, so I guess I was bound to get to a point where I was scratching my noggin wondering what I was going to do. Either way, we got some great images and I have actually created a great relationship with my senior and I look forward to working with her the coming year.
Melodee, my model, is a super sweet gal! Oh, and her parents were just as awesome! I love that mom AND dad came to the shoot. Melodee is part of the student council at her school, plays flag football, and is active in school and church. She is a blessing to Myrna Loy Photography and I am sure you will be seeing her beautiful face again!
I hope you enjoy these photos, as I had lots of fun planning and photographing it!
Now make sure you go check out what Annmarie of Marie Holmes Photography did with her $20!
