Las Vegas Extended Family Photographer | The Hill Family

Some families just have a warmth about you can feel before the session even starts. The Hills are that kind of family. As a Las Vegas extended family photographer, one of my favorite calls to get is when a family decides to gather everyone together, not for a holiday or a milestone, just because they want photos that hold this time of life. That is exactly what this Summerlin session was.

That is exactly what extended family photos are for.

What a Las Vegas Extended Family Photographer Wants You to Know

Coordinating an extended family session takes effort. Someone has to make the calls, send the texts, pick the outfits, and get everyone to agree on a date. That person deserves a gold star every time.

But here is what happens when you do it: you end up with something irreplaceable.

Not just photos of everyone looking nice. Photos of the whole family, together, in this chapter of life. The grandparents with their grandchildren. The siblings, grown now, standing next to each other the way they did when they were kids. The little ones who are growing faster than anyone is ready for.

As a Las Vegas extended family photographer, this is one of my favorite things to document. Because these gatherings are rare, and they matter more than people realize until later.

A Summerlin Evening That Felt Like Home

There is something grounding about photographing a family in a place that is already meaningful to them. The Hills’ community park was not just a backdrop. It was familiar. It was theirs.

We kept the session relaxed and unhurried. With a group this size, there is always some good-natured chaos, and that is honestly where the best moments come from. A grandparent pulling a grandchild in close. Siblings sharing a look. The kids doing exactly what kids do when they stop worrying about the camera.

I guided everyone through the session with prompts that kept things moving and feeling natural. No stiff lineups. No forced smiles. Just the family, doing what they do best.

Why Extended Family Photos Are Worth the Effort

Here is something I say to every family who tells me they have been putting off an extended family session: do not wait for a special occasion.

These are the photos that will hang in your home for decades. The ones that grandchildren will find one day and really look at. The ones that remind everyone what it felt like to be in this family, right now, in this time of life.

Photographs hold what memory cannot always keep.
